The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has removed Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna from his position as Secretary-General following a decision by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC).

The decision was reached on Tuesday, February 11, 2026, during an NEC meeting held in Mombasa, where senior party leaders met to deliberate on internal party matters.

In a statement issued after the meeting, the NEC cited concerns over discipline within the party’s senior leadership, saying it had resolved to remove Sifuna from office with immediate effect in accordance with the ODM constitution.

“The NEC expressed grave concern over the rising levels of indiscipline within the Party, particularly at the senior leadership level,” the statement said, without providing specific details.

Busia Woman Representative Catherine Omanyo, who had been serving as Deputy Secretary-General, was appointed Acting Secretary-General pending the election of a substantive office holder.

Sifuna’s removal follows months of internal tension within ODM, with some party members questioning his public statements and political positioning, which they said departed from agreed party positions.

Despite the decision, Sifuna remains the elected Senator for Nairobi County. By the time of publication, he had not publicly commented on the matter.

During the same meeting, the NEC adopted several resolutions, including granting the Party Leader authority to steer pre-election coalition negotiations ahead of the 2027 General Election.

ODM also resolved to initiate the process of withdrawing from the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition, citing alleged breaches of the coalition agreement by some partners.

The party further announced that a National Delegates Convention will be held in Nairobi on March 27, 2026, to ratify key decisions taken by the NEC and outline the party’s way forward.
