The Government has distributed more than 130,000 bags of fertilizer to farmers nationwide to ramp up efforts to ensure access to agricultural inputs during this planting season.
Agriculture Principal Secretary (PS) Dr. Paul Ronoh stated this after inspecting depots in the North Rift and Western regions, including the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) in Kitale, Kenya Seed Company in Trans Nzoia County, and the Eldoret and Moisbridge depots in Uasin Gishu County.
The tour aimed to assess the rollout of fertilizers and seeds, a key pillar of the government’s strategy to strengthen its agricultural sector.
“Most depots received their fertilizer supplies, fulfilling the government's recent promise. Over 130,000 bags were distributed nationwide through NCPB stores,” PS Ronoh said.
The initiative seeks to provide farmers with “uninterrupted access to essential farm inputs” at a pivotal planting season.
The PS highlighted discussions with county leaders to improve last-mile delivery, with plans to establish additional distribution points through cooperative networks.
“Such advancements underscore a collective vision to streamline access and enhance agricultural productivity,” he noted.
The Ministry of Agriculture, in a separate X post, described the effort as part of revitalizing supply chains to advance farmers’ prosperity.
Dr. Ronoh was joined by Kenya Seed Company Managing Director Sammy K. Chepsiror and other stakeholders during the visits, signaling strong coordination.
The distribution follows the government’s pledge to bolster agriculture, a vital economic driver in Kenya, amid challenges like rising input costs and climate variability.
