MOMBASA, October 31, 2023 - Mombasa-based civil society organization, Local Empowerment For Good Governance (LENGGO), yesterday introduced the TEMA application.

TEMA is a state-of-the-art platform aimed at streamlining the work of healthcare professionals, including doctors. The TEMA app offers citizens a means to provide valuable feedback, voice concerns, and share their healthcare experiences

During the official launch event, Dr. Lucy from Coast General Teaching And Referral Hospital lauded the TEMA application for its transformative impact on the healthcare industry. She emphasized how the application empowers healthcare providers by granting them immediate access to patient feedback, concerns, and opinions, enabling them to address issues promptly and efficiently.

Conducted by TEMA, a recent survey in six sub-counties in MOMBASA during 2022 and 2023, including Nyali, Kisauni, Changamwe, Mvita, Likoni, and Jomvu, undertook comprehensive assessments of patient satisfaction. The surveys encompassed various aspects such as waiting times, staff-patient interactions, information provided about illnesses and treatments, restroom cleanliness, waste disposal, and access to clean water.

The insights and recommendations gathered from patients through the TEMA application play a crucial role in addressing healthcare challenges. Feedback has already prompted improvements in staffing levels, drug availability, and other vital aspects of healthcare delivery.

The surveys carried out by TEMA serve as a critical tool in identifying issues within healthcare institutions and holding government officials accountable for addressing these concerns. Mr. Lucas Fondo from LENGGO emphasized that these surveys will be conducted every six months to monitor progress and ensure continuous enhancements in healthcare services.

Though TEMA has demonstrated its potential, the application currently operates through WhatsApp and is primarily tailored for smaller healthcare facilities such as dispensaries. Larger institutions like Coast General Hospital, with its various departments, may not fully align with the app's current capabilities.

The launch of TEMA signifies a significant stride towards transparency and efficiency in healthcare services. It empowers both healthcare workers and patients to collaborate in enhancing the quality of care delivered. As TEMA continues to evolve, it has the potential to revolutionize the entire healthcare landscape, ultimately benefitting the well-being of citizens in MOMBASA and beyond.
