The National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) yesterday hosted a diverse array of influential leaders in Frere Town. Their aim was to deliberate on and promote initiatives aimed at uplifting the residents of Mombasa and various marginalized groups.

The event, which unfolded at the Frere Town grounds, witnessed several prominent figures, including Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) such as Hon. Mariam Daimu, Hon. Benard Ogutu representing Changamwe, and Hon. Nyota, who eloquently spoke for Ziwa la Ng' ombe.

The event's chief guest was Hon. Zamzam Chimba Mohammed, the Women's Representative for Mombasa. She was accompanied by Governor Abdulswamad Sheriff Nassir. Their presence underscored the remarkable importance of the NGAAF program in Mombasa County.

A notable highlight of the event was its commitment to inclusivity. While the program primarily focuses on empowering women, Hon. Zamzam Mohammed emphasized the pressing need to address the current economic challenges facing the nation and the importance of extending support to men as well. Her unwavering commitment to gender equality shone brightly as she addressed the gathering, advocating for a more equitable society.

Governor Abdulswamad Nassir also took the opportunity to address the audience, highlighting his determination to assist young individuals seeking rehabilitation through methadone. He stated, "I've been a steadfast proponent of methadone, with its inception in Makadara preceding my tenure as a Member of Parliament." His words echoed the need to provide support to those on the path to rehabilitation.

Going a step further, Hon. Zamzam Mohammed made a pledge to incorporate and support youth undergoing methadone treatment within the NGAAF program. She reassured the audience that this was only the inception of a series of initiatives and financial support that would soon follow. Her commitment to the cause was palpable, considering that it had been just a year since her election.

The NGAAF program's debut in Frere Town was a resounding success, with an assembly of esteemed leaders wholeheartedly dedicated to advancing the well-being of the people of Mombasa and promoting a more inclusive and equitable society.
